GENERAL INFORMATION
ABOUT THE TRAIN CONNECTIONS TO THE UNIVERSITY

All the public transportation connections you can check on the website (or you can download the app) of Deutsche Bahn: https://www.bahn.com/en. You can also buy your tickets from the app directly and will not need to search for the ticket machines or validation terminals anymore. All you need to have your phone with you with the digital ticket on it.

From Dortmund main station, the S1 (direction Solingen) always departs from track 7.

The S1 leaves also every approx. 15 minutes to the University stop.

From Essen and Bochum (main station), the S1 leaves every approx. 15 minutes to the University stop (Dortmund).

- From Bochum main station, the S1 (direction Dortmund HBF) always departs from platform 8.

- From Essen main station the S1 (direction Dortmund HBF) departs either from track 11, 10 or 9 (look for the display board).

 

BY CITY TRAIN (inside of Dortmund)

The city train S1 runs regularly between the central station ‘Hauptbahnhof’ and the university:

At workdays before 7pm every 20min (xx:13/xx:33/xx:53), on the weekends every 30min (xx:23/xx:53). It takes only six minutes; departure is from track 7.

You will need a ticket tariff A for around 3,00 €.

  • Please, remember that when you go by city train in Dortmund in order to get on and off the train, you have to push the green blinking button on the doors. The doors do not open automatically.

 

BY SUBWAY AND BUS (inside of Dortmund)

Take the metro U42 from the stop “Reinoldikirche”, direction Hombruch. Exit at the stop “An der Palmweide”. You can take several buses from there to campus: 462, direction Huckarde Bushof and 447, direction Huckarde Bushof. Exit at the stop ‘Emil Figge Strasse’ or ‘Dortmund Universität’.

  • Please, remember that when you go by bus in Dortmund in order to get off, you have to push the red button BEFORE your stop. Otherwise, the bus may not stop at all at the stop you need. All stops are announced.

 

Tickets for public transportation

For public transportation within Dortmund, you have to buy a ticket in the category A (A3) for ca. 3 € at the vending machines on stations or from the bus driver in buses; and stamp it before getting on the train or metro or stamp it on the bus with the machine next to the bus driver.

Please remember to validate (stamp) your ticket when traveling with public transportation.

Prices for tickets

Single ticket (valid for 90 minutes in one direction): 3 €, 4-rides-ticket: 11 € (must be stamped each 90 min. ride! Otherwise you can get fined)

Day pass for 1/2/3/4/5 persons: 7,00€/10,30€/13,60€/16,90€/20,20€.

At night

  • You may need different transportation to get back to your accommodation after midnight.

Take the city train S1, it runs once per hour at night and brings you to the central station.

Take the night bus number NE 8 at the stop ‘Dortmund Universität’, get off at the stop ‘Dortmund Hauptbahnhof’ or at the stop ‘Reinoldikirche’.

BY CAR (inside of Dortmund)

The campus is closely located to the autobahn intersection “Dortmund West”, where the autobahn A45 crosses the autobahn B1/A40. Take the exit “Dortmund Dorstfeld” on B1/A40 from where road signs lead you to the Technical University (TU Dortmund), FH Dortmund is located in the same area.
